These are designed to be very effective against 'opportunist attacks', by simply sending out a strong message to all levels of attacker that this machine is defended by a higher than normal level of security. Being made from 18mm thick laminated steel means that any attack to be successful will probably require the use of power tools or oxy-acetylene cutting equipment, in either case the band probably removes the ATM from the scope for an opportunist. Even in the case of a planned attack, it will cause further delays in the break-in process thereby increasing the possibility of detection.
